Mathematical solution for object motion when there are 2 or more objects?
I am writing an in-game AI system for a 2D java game. Currently I have a number of objects, a ball and some players, on a 2D screen. The players are created dynamically when they move towards the ball. When the player is touching the ball, it has a higher priority then the player, so it can move the ball. The problem is I don't know how to find the exact point in which the player would touch the ball. This is the code I have now:
Point player = getPlayerLocation();
Point ball = new Point(400, 400);
Point closest = new Point(400, 400);
if(ball.distance(player) > ball.distance(closest)) {
//Player is the closest so it will move ball
closest = ball;
} else {
//Player isn't the closest so it won't move ball.
}
However, this isn't exact. It looks like the ball might just stop where it touches the player or it might move to somewhere in between. How should I solve this problem?
A:
Check out the sample code from the pseudocode on Wikipedia.
Hope it helps.
